Nanoleaf’s new Essentials smart light range

The redesigned Essentials line from Nanoleaf includes a smart lightbulb and smart lightstrip that are formally the first smart lights to work with Matter.

The Thread-enabled Nanoleaf Essentials lights that went on sale last year appear remarkably similar to the new A19/E26 bulb and the lightstrip, but they have the crucial Matter logo on the box.

Similar to the original Essentials lights, these smart lights operate through Thread, but this time, Thread connection will open up the Matter smart home ecosystem when connected with a Thread border router and Matter controller.

This entails streamlined setup, smooth controls, and customized routines that are brand-neutral and function across many platforms thanks to Matter’s Multi-Admin features.

Currently, a wide variety of Matter controllers, including an Apple HomePod mini, Apple TV, Nest WiFi, Google Home smart speaker, or a SmartThings Hub, are powering Matter over Thread.

Soon, Amazon will also transform its selection of Echo speakers and screens into Matter controllers and Thread border routers.

Because it should deliver more immediate results for smart lighting than Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, Thread is a major selling feature.

The user doesn’t even need to worry about it because the new Nanoleaf Essentials will choose the optimum course of action for connectivity inside a Matter setup.

The new light bulb has a crazy Rhombicosidodecahedron form, different color temperatures (2700K-6500K), and a maximum brightness of 2200 lumens, just like its predecessor.

There are 2m starter packs, 1m extension kits, and a 5m kit are all available for the lightstrip.

According to Nanoleaf, the Matter Essentials range will soon be extended to include a GU10 spotlight and a BR30 bulb.

There are rumors that Matter compatibility will also be added to the existing Shapes, Elements, Canvas, and Lines Nanoleaf modular light panels and light bars later this year.
