The Obsbot Mini 2 pan-tilt-zoom webcam has been released with an upgraded AI and a larger, dual-ISO sensor.
The Tiny 2 is the most recent of a line of Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) webcams from Obsbot that feature AI subject tracking. This is a significant update that features a new form factor and a 1/1.5″ sensor “dual-native ISO CMOS capable of producing 4K footage with enhanced HDR.
Compared to the 1/2.8 sensor, the larger sensor has roughly 4 times the surface area “the device’s predecessor, the Small 4K, which we previously examined (see Tiny 4K review). For each frame, the dual-layered sensor captures two images simultaneously, which the software may then process jointly to ensure a broad dynamic range. This, according to Obsbot, will also make the camera capable of handling both bright and low light.
The tracking that gave the “Deep Neural Learning Network” brand its name is now improved by a new version of the algorithm. The camera can still follow the user around the space like it did before, but it also adds Auto Framing, Desk Mode, Hand Tracking, and Zone Tracking.
For the first time in Obsbot’s history, voice control will also be available on the new camera.
Additional enhancements include a 4x increase in focusing speed, USB 3.0, and increased throughput. According to Obsbot, this is accomplished by using each of the 100 megapixels (both layers of 50) to achieve quick focusing and, more crucially for people in dimly lit areas, superior focusing across a range of illumination conditions.
Moreover, there will be a “Beauty Mode” that performs the intelligent skin softening, skin brightening, and eye brightening we’ve seen on phones and other apps.
The Tiny 2’s predecessors left an impression on us, thus this is a promising future for designers. Early May is the anticipated shipping date, and it will be offered in a conventional pack (with case), as well as other packages with remote controls and even several cameras.
