Samsung’s first flat mini-LED gaming monitor

After unveiling the Odyssey Neo G7 for 2023 earlier this year, Samsung has now made the display’s cost public. Listings for the 43-inch mini-LED display, which costs $1,000, are currently active. However, the finest gaming monitors are a fierce competitor.

It is significantly larger than the model from the previous year, growing from 32 inches to 43 inches while keeping the 16:9 aspect ratio. The panel, according to Samsung, boasts a 144Hz refresh rate, a 1 millisecond reaction time, and both Samsung’s own HDR10+ certification and DisplayHDR 600 certification from VESA.

During the past few years, this category of huge gaming monitors has grown in popularity, especially as TVs like the 42-inch LG C2 have shrunk in price and size. Samsung isn’t employing OLED, in contrast to most screens in this group. Mini-LEDs are employed.

Mini-LED displays like the Cooler Master GP27Q have demonstrated that this panel technology is capable of offering an excellent HDR experience at a competitive price. But, the Odyssey Neo G7‘s primary issue is its cost. The price of a 42-inch LG C2 is the same, and when it’s on sale, it can be reduced by up to $300.

The Odyssey Neo G7 still has certain features that make its cost reasonable. In the middle is Samsung Gaming Hub, a platform integrated into the display that enables you to stream games from GeForce Now and Xbox Game Pass. It also includes Samsung’s TV operating system, which enables you to access content via apps like Netflix and YouTube.

Moreover, the display has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, enabling you to stream games from your phone to the display and use a controller for cloud-based games. Samsung provides two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 port for communication. Included into the panel are two 20-watt speakers as well.

Despite the fact that the Odyssey Neo G7 could have outstanding HDR thanks to the mini-LED panel, some vital information is still lacking. The spec sheet only mentions a brightness of 400 nits, and Samsung hasn’t disclosed how many local dimming zones or contrast ratio it has.

But it shouldn’t be long until we get to see the display in action. It is currently on sale directly from Samsung as well as at a few select U.S. stores.
